Adding sockets to your home in West Sussex - A simple job in Rustington that proves it’s the little things that make a big difference.
Dual socket installed by Tide Electrical, West Sussex
We were recently called out to a home in Rustington to add a new double socket in the downstairs hallway. It wasn’t a big job, but it was a practical one that’s already made everyday life a bit easier for the homeowners.
And that’s what good electrics are all about.
What Was the Job?
The client needed a socket in their hallway, mainly so they could plug the hoover in without stretching cables across rooms or up the stairs. Totally reasonable, right?
The wall backed onto the area under their staircase, where they already had a socket supplying power to the home’s Wi-Fi setup.
We carefully cut into the plasterboard, drilled through to the understairs space, and ran a new cable neatly and securely from the existing socket. The cable was clipped along the inside, out of sight, and terminated at a flush double socket on the hallway side.
Why It’s Worth Doing Properly
Even though this was a straightforward install, we still took all the usual safety steps:
- Confirmed the existing socket could safely supply another
- Used the correct cable and fixings
- Neatly clipped and routed the cable to keep it secure and tidy
- Fully tested the socket using a tester to confirm safe operation
- Left everything clean, labelled and ready to use
It's a quick win that’ll make vacuuming, plugging in temporary lights, or charging devices in the hall so much easier.
Could You DIY It? Technically… But Should You?
We know how tempting it is to try and add “just one more socket.” But if you don’t check the circuit, use the wrong cable, or skip testing, you could damage your electrics, or worse, create a fire risk.
Even small jobs need to meet the same safety standards as the big ones.
The Result
A tidy, safe, and properly tested hallway socket that does exactly what it needs to do, all without a single cable in sight.
