Recently we completed an industrial lighting upgrade in Lancing, replacing older fluorescent tube fittings with modern 200W LED high bay lights inside a busy workshop unit. The objective of the project was to improve the brightness across the workspace while also increasing the overall energy efficiency of the building.
Industrial and commercial units often rely on lighting systems that were installed many years ago. Fluorescent fittings were once the standard solution for large spaces because they provided reasonable coverage across wide workshop floors. However, as these fittings age, the light output gradually reduces and reliability can begin to decline.
Essentially, while the lights may still technically operate, the quality of the lighting slowly deteriorates. This often results in darker areas across the workspace, flickering tubes and fittings that take longer to reach full brightness. In environments such as fabrication workshops or industrial units, this can begin to impact both productivity and safety.
Good lighting is particularly important where machinery, measuring equipment and fabrication work are involved. Therefore improving the lighting within these environments can make a significant difference to how effectively the workspace functions.
Safe Installation Using a Cherry Picker
For this commercial lighting project in Lancing, the existing lighting layout within the unit was already suitable. Therefore the most practical solution was to carry out a like for like replacement, upgrading the fittings while keeping the same positions across the ceiling structure.
Due to the height of the steel roof structure within the industrial unit, safe access equipment was required. To complete the installation properly we used a cherry picker (MEWP), which allowed us to safely reach the ceiling mounted fittings and carry out the work efficiently.
Working from a powered access platform allows precise positioning when removing older fittings and installing new equipment. This makes the installation process safer and more controlled when working at height within industrial buildings.
Installing 200W LED High Bay Lighting
The existing fluorescent fittings were removed and replaced with 200W LED high bay lights, which are specifically designed for industrial units, warehouses and commercial workshops with higher ceilings.
LED high bay lighting provides significantly improved performance compared to traditional fluorescent tube systems. Essentially, LEDs convert electrical energy into usable light far more efficiently, which means a brighter and more consistent output across the workspace.
Alongside improved brightness, LED lighting provides several additional benefits for industrial and commercial buildings:
- Lower energy consumption, therefore reduced electricity costs
- Longer lifespan compared to fluorescent tubes
- Instant full brightness with no warm up time
- Reduced maintenance over the lifetime of the fittings
For businesses operating workshops or warehouses, these improvements can have a noticeable impact on both working conditions and long term running costs.
Brighter and More Efficient Industrial Lighting
Once the installation was complete and the new LED high bay fittings were energised, the difference across the unit was immediately noticeable. The workshop is now considerably brighter, with a more even spread of light across machinery, work areas and walkways.
Projects like this demonstrate how upgrading to LED industrial lighting in Lancing can be a straightforward but highly effective improvement for commercial premises. Alongside improving visibility and efficiency, businesses can benefit from reduced maintenance and lower energy consumption over time.
While we carry out a large amount of domestic electrical work across Rustington, Worthing and surrounding areas, we are steadily expanding further into commercial and industrial electrical installations, including LED lighting upgrades, power installations and electrical inspections across West Sussex.
If your workshop, warehouse or commercial building still relies on older fluorescent lighting, upgrading to modern LED high bay fittings can significantly improve both the brightness and efficiency of the space.
